Overwhelmed....

Okay, so the new year is here. Greg's first week back to work has come and gone. And I find myself completely overwhelmed.

We ordered parts for a new computer. The computer in the living room is the central hub for all of our activities on the computer system that Greg has set up. And it was misbehaving. If you shut it down, in order to get it to start back up you'd have to press the power button and then press the reset button. It decided it liked to randomly freeze up when it was just sitting there doing one maybe two relatively simple tasks. Sometimes it would freeze up when it was doing nothing, that was pretty fun.

All the parts were finally delivered last night. So Greg put it all together. Yay. So there's boxes to all of these parts and all of the shipping boxes everywhere. Well... I got frustrated with them last night and I threw them all into a big pile, which just happened to end up in front of the door to get out.... so that's not going to work for very much longer.

So at this point I'm avoiding the mess. Everywhere I look I see computer parts and underneath that is the rest of the mess of me moving in here and all of the things that don't really have a place yet. It seems like just as soon as I move something he needs it back, so I'm just trying to stay out of the way of the computer mastermind at work. He says that there's actually 3 computers torn apart in the middle of the living room right now.

So that's what's going on today. Let me think, what happened that was noteworthy recently?

Greg made a great discovery (with a little help) on Tuesday night before he had to go back to work. He hates the new ACUs, it's the new uniform that the military is wearing now. They kind of look all digital, and they're a more gray color than the woodland green BDUs. The ACUs have a lot of Velcro all over he place and it doesn't really make much sense. They're also sewn really cheaply. And the Velcro keeps unraveling and it looks really bad and you can't get rid of all the strings, its kind of terrible. They're really quite expensive too. So when the uniform starts to look really bad, and the Velcro's unraveled to the point that it's no longer useful, you really can't just go out and buy a new set. Can you tell I've heard these complaints over and over again? So on Tuesday night he pulled out his uniform and was complaining about it and we were examining it. He started cutting off the strings and I asked him about melting down the parts where the strings were coming off of with a match or a lighter or something and if that would help to keep it from unraveling, Velcro is plastic. So he took that idea and went with it. And before I knew it he had pulled out the soldering iron and was melting the all the edges of each piece of Velcro. He seemed to be quite impressed with how it turned out and we're hoping that this really will be the solution to some of the ACU complaints.

Between the wedding and Christmas, we had a couple of gift cards to JC Penny. That store is kind of overwhelming to me to shop at. But Greg found a great deal on an Espresso maker that we used the bulk of the gift cards on. He's had a lot of fun playing with it, and I've had a lot of fun with theresults. He's very creative he makes some good things from it! The first day that he played with it he made a huge mess though. There were coffee grounds all over the counter top and in a whole bunch of dishes. It was pretty bad. He had coffee grounds all over his face, and nose, it almost looked like he got so excited he tried to snort the grounds. It was bad. After getting the kitchen all cleaned up and running the dishwasher, we found that a whole bunch of ground got in the dishwasher and covered the entire load. Such a disaster, but the pictures are priceless!

I made my first solo trip here in Colorado Springs on Friday! I made it all the way to Walmart and back without someone else in the car or coaching me where to go! Yay. I picked up some groceries and the photos from the few disposable cameras from the wedding that were fully used up. Feel free to check them out, I posted them on my Google Albums.

The other day Greg and I went to a guitar store and picked up some new strings for my guitar and the stuff that I would need to play guitar standing up, so I have a neat strap and a loopy clipy thing that lets me attach the guitar strap to the head of my guitar. It's really different playing standing up. I don't know if I'm quite prepared for doing that yet. I may just take a stool with us to practice and church for a while and play sitting down until I get the hang of it. Playing with a strap really does change things! I didn't realize what a difference it made.

Um... I can't really thing of anything else noteworthy at this point. Plus we've got to get going, we're going to meet some friends at the Pioneer Museum downtown in about a half hour. It should be fun.
