Last night at dinner Greg discovered there was a problem. He had a bulge on is lower left abdominal. We went to the emergency room at about 9:00pm. We were there until after midnight. He has a hernia and it is causing him lots of pain. Because his intestine is not blocked or impeded in some way from the hernia - it's not considered an emergency because it's not life threatening. But because of the pain that it's causing him they do want him to have surgery on it soon. Today he's calling surgery to set up a time in the next few days to have surgery to correct it. They call it a "72 hour ASAP" referral to surgery. So that's what we're look towards in the next few days.
Right now he's supposed to be wearing something called a truss - basically it's a really tight ace bandage that will hold his insides in w/o him having to physically apply pressure to the area. But the hospital didn't have one and told me that I should take him home and then go to Walgreens to get one. But Walgreens didn't have one either. So Greg went to work today w/o it. If it bulges out he's going to have to push it back in and hold it there. He's only got office work today. So I'm not too worried about him. He's not in pain as long as everything is where it's supposed to be. He's more irritated with the situation than anything.
He went into sick call this morning and was able to get off of work until he can get into the surgery clinic so he can just lie down and be okay. He's got an appointment at the surgery clinic now at 9:30. I don't know if they're going to just examine him or try and get him into surgery today. We'll see. I'll update more later.
