Okay, so the biggest news is that we sold my car. It'll be so weird being without my own vehicle for the next few weeks. I was sad to see it go but it really doesn't work for us. It was great for me as I was a single, but now with being married and the different things that we have to do, it's just not really big enough (for things like carrying around sound equipment or picking up Debbie, her keyboard, and two kids to go to band practice with Greg, me and my guitar).
We sold my car to a friend of Greg's in the Army. He just got here a couple of weeks ago and needed a car to get around. Before we mentioned my car, he was going to reluctantly buy a motorcycle for $3,000 because that was the cheapest vehicle he could find in the area. Colorado Springs is so expensive for vehicles.
We're now in the market for a cheap old truck. We've found some decent things on Craigslist, but nothing that really struck our interest yet. When we find our truck, I'll have to post pictures. Greg's kind of looking for a hobby I think.
As of right now he's reclass hasn't gone through yet. His unit has been stoplossed which means that no one is allowed to leave this unit without special permission under special circumstances. So his reclass paper work would have to find the Colonel in a generous mood after finally getting through the last step of having the people in the pentagon sign off on it. Greg said that one of the sergeants is pushing them to get that paperwork through, so we'll see what happens.
Right now Greg's currently working with personnel for his unit. He started on Friday. They were able to get a new chaplains assistant in to work with the chaplain that Greg's been filling in with. Greg thinks that if his reclass paperwork doesn't go through in time then he'll be going to Iraq with the personnel people.
Right now, there's really two things that could happen in our near future. Greg's reclass could go through and sometime in early to mid April he'll be off to South Carolina training to be a chaplains assistant. That'll mean him being gone for 2 to 3 months depending on Army timing. After the training is over, he'd be assigned to needs of the army - which could send him to any post. We'd be moving where ever they sent him. Which is why the truck is so important - we could rent a trailer and hook it on to the truck, fill up the van and go. And it would only cost us $300 to move which is much better than the $2500 he spent on the moving truck to get out to CO. He'd probably be getting assigned to a unit that will be going overseas no more than a couple of months from when he arrives. Or there's the other option. If his reclass doesn't go through - he'll stay with his current unit. He'll be going to the National Training Center in mid April and the going to Iraq in June. What he'll be doing is completely up to the Army. I have peace in his belief that he'd likely be going over there as a personnel person. But nothing is for sure as far as we know.
So as far a we know we could be living in Colorado for as little as 4 more months or as much as a year and a half. And from what I understand after Greg comes back to the states, he could very well be restationed again. So woohoo.
Right now church is pretty well chaos too. The school that we're renting from, that we meet at, has decided that either next school year they will not be renting the space or if they do they will be raising the price. The church can't afford to pay an increased price so we're moving. We don't know where yet. But we have to find a place by June or else we're a homeless church. Also, our Pastor has decided to resign from the Free Methodist Church denomination. He's going to be starting a nondenominational church here in the area - no more than a mile or two from where we currently meet. So that seems to basically be starting a church split. This Sunday we had our pastor and someone from the FMC Conference speak to us and they were both being passive aggressive towards each other. It's just kind of icky. Doug put the conference in a really difficult position and he's quitting the denomination because of personal conflicts with some of the denomination's "ideals", I guess that's the best way to put it, and some personal disagreements with the conference. So it's just icky.
Greg and I have decided that we'll stay with Fresh Wind. So we'll see what happens. With everything that's going on we're loosing band member's left and right. The pastors wife was our worship leader, a vocalist and our keyboard player. The two other female vocals have had to quit because of personal things going on in their life. Our drummers last week will be Easter. With everything that's going, it's not the best thing for his family. So they're probably going to be looking at different churches at that time. That leaves me as the only female vocal and guitarist (aka - only melody instrument), Greg and another guy as male vocals. A bass player and a young man who plays percussion but not a full drum set yet. The conference is looking at Worship Leaders to come in - so anything is possible. I agree with Greg, I'm not interested in having a WL come in and only stay for a few weeks or months or whatever. But we'll see what happens.
In other smaller news - this Sunday for band we played 5 songs. Four of which I had never played before. And the one song that I did know - I had only learned the week before and I kind of just stumbled my way through it. So I decided that I would practice a lot during this week. Yeah - I practiced too much and that only lead to sore fingers and a kind of swollen index finger. Boo.
So well... I think I've ran out of things to write about for the time being and I'm starting to aggravate that sore index finger again. I'll catch you all later!
