Race Update!

I'm so excited.

When I was running I thought I was doing okay on time. Although I was walking during parts of it, I made sure that I was walking fast. I was running as long as I could. I really thought I was doing pretty good. I knew I wasn't going to be setting a PR (Personal Record), but I still thought that I was doing pretty good. But I wasn't timing myself at all. I deliberately wasn't looking at my watch. So I just waited to see what the race clock said when I got there.

When the race clock came in sight I was disappointed to see that it already read 37:49 and I was still a good way off. I just figured that I must have been running slower than I thought I was, or that there were other factors causing me to run slow. I was sure that my time was 38+. My best time was 36:11 and I know that I ran that one slow - I had much more I could have put into it. My very first 5K, (I felt like I ran this one better than my first) I did 37:04. So 38+ was incredibly disappointing, even with all the factors that I could attribute some of the cause to. But when it boiled right down to it, it felt like I had ran fairly well - not good, just well.

After that race time I was ready to hit the road again (as soon as I was properly recovered) with a new attitude and angry determination to do better.

Tomorrow's going to be my first day back to running after the race (two days off because knees are feeling weak, and shins are sore). So I figured I would get online and look up the race results, see if they were posted yet and if they were, I wanted to see exactly how badly I did.

Then a strange thing happened.... I got online and the results were posted (okay, that wasn't the strange part). I scanned down the times to find the 38+ minute finishers. I couldn't find my name anywhere in the 38 minute range. So I started to wonder if they missed me on the results. So I started scanning for my name all the way through the list. Apparently they messed up the race clock. Because my official result was 36:23. Which would be about 2 minutes from what the race clock said. I'm so excited! It means that I actually did run as well as I thought I did. I'm much happier with that result. For only a couple of months of training and doing a run walk, I'm very happy with that result.

Now I'm ready to get back into training for my next 5K with just joyful dedication and enjoyment of the sport. I'm happy.
